The Crocodile Dundee knife, built for people who want the real size
Few knives are as recognizable as the oversized Bowie from the 1986 film Crocodile Dundee. This Crocodile Dundee knife from ZB Knives captures that outline: a long clip-point blade with a blood groove, a brass guard, and a stacked leather handle finished with buffalo horn.
At 16.5 inches overall, with an 11.5-inch blade, it has the presence that made the original famous. It is also a working-size fixed blade, not a wall ornament only. Collectors, movie fans and outdoor users all buy this style for different reasons, and it suits each of them.

Why choose this Dundee-style Bowie knife
1. D2 steel, not the usual 440C
Most Dundee-style knives sold online use 440C or J2 steel. This one uses D2 steel, a tool steel known for holding an edge through long cutting sessions. If you want a large Bowie that stays sharp longer between touch-ups, D2 is a strong reason to choose this one.
2. A longer blade than many competing models
Many Dundee-style Bowies on the market run 10 to 11 inches of blade. This one has 11.5 inches. That extra length adds to the dramatic profile and gives you reach for chopping and slicing big jobs.
3. The classic look, done in real materials
Stacked leather, buffalo horn and a brass guard are the materials that give this knife its character. The leather rings are layered by hand. Buffalo horn and brass age well and develop a patina that makes each knife look better with use.
4. A fair price for a custom-made piece
At $135, it sits at the lower end of comparable handmade Dundee-style Bowies, which commonly run from the high $100s to around $190. You get a custom-made knife and a leather sheath at that price.
5. Made to order for gifts and personal touches

Materials and craftsmanship
D2 steel
D2 is a high-chromium, high-carbon tool steel. It is often described as semi-stainless: it resists wear and holds an edge very well, but it is not fully stainless. That means a little care goes a long way (see the care section below). ["Hardened to XX HRC", only if you know the real figure for this knife.]
Stacked leather and buffalo horn
Thin leather rings are stacked and compressed onto the tang, then shaped and finished by hand. The buffalo horn section is a natural material. Expect small differences in color and grain between knives, which is part of the charm of a handmade piece.
Brass guard
Solid brass gives the knife its warm accent and a sturdy cross-guard. Over time it darkens naturally. A quick polish brings it back if you prefer a bright finish.
Handmade, one at a time
This is not a mass-produced factory knife. Each piece is made by hand to order. [ADD: where it is made, how long it takes, and who makes it. A short "who we are" line builds trust fast.]
What can you do with a Crocodile Dundee-style Bowie knife?
Collect and display. The silhouette alone makes it a conversation piece. Hang it in a den, workshop, bar or man cave, or keep it in its sheath on a shelf.
Outdoor use. A big Bowie is at home in camp and bush work: clearing brush, cutting rope, splitting kindling and food prep around the fire. For fine tasks like skinning, a smaller knife is easier to handle (see our skinning and hunting knife collections).
Gifts. It makes a memorable present for movie fans, knife collectors, campers and anyone who loves Australian outback culture.
Fans of the film. If you grew up quoting the "that's not a knife" scene, this is the knife you picture.
Legal note: Knife laws on length, carry and shipping differ by country, state and city. Check your local rules before you order. Customers must be 18 or older to purchase knives.
The story behind the knife
In the 1986 film Crocodile Dundee, Paul Hogan's character pulls out a huge Bowie-style blade and turns a street mugging into a movie moment. The knife became as famous as the film. Ever since, fans and collectors have wanted one of their own.
ZB Knives makes a Dundee-style Bowie in the same spirit: oversized clip-point blade, blood groove, brass guard and stacked leather handle.
ZB Knives is an independent maker. This knife is inspired by the design seen in the film and is not affiliated with, licensed by or endorsed by the film's producers or its cast. [Recommended disclaimer. Confirm wording with your own legal advice.]

Which should you pick? Choose D2 if edge retention matters most to you and you don't mind wiping the blade down after use. Choose 440C if you want easier rust resistance. Choose Damascus if the pattern is the main attraction.
Care and maintenance
D2 rewards a little attention:
-
Wipe the blade dry after each use, especially after contact with food, water or moisture.
-
Apply a thin coat of knife oil or mineral oil before storing it for a while.
-
Store it dry. Leather sheaths can trap moisture, so for long-term storage keep the knife out of the sheath in a dry place.
-
Condition the leather. An occasional wipe with leather conditioner keeps the handle and sheath supple.
-
Polish the brass with a soft cloth if you want it bright. Leave it alone if you like the patina.
-
Sharpen on whetstones or a quality sharpening system. D2 is hard, so go slowly and keep a consistent angle.
