Browse the collection below to match blade steel, handle material, and lock type to how you carry.

WHO THIS COLLECTION IS FOR

Daily carry user

You open packages, cut cord, and trim material throughout the workday. The 3.0" Damascus back-lock model rides flat in a front pocket, deploys one-handed via thumb stud, and weighs under 4 oz. The back lock engages with an audible click, preventing accidental closure mid-cut.

Outdoor and field user

Campers, hikers, and fishermen need a blade that holds an edge through gutting, rope work, and wet-weather tasks. The 7.5" overall Damascus liner-lock model gives you 3.75" of usable blade, a sheep horn or exotic wood handle that stays grippy without gloves, and a leather sheath for belt carry.

Collector and Damascus enthusiast

Hand-forged Damascus billets produce visible layered patterns because two steels  1095 high-carbon steel and 15N20 nickel steel  are welded, drawn, and folded in a workshop in Pakistan using traditional forge techniques. Each blade is a one-of-a-kind pattern. The $95–$105 price range makes this an accessible entry point for a handmade Damascus collection.

WHAT MAKES THESE KNIVES DIFFERENT

Forge method: hand-forged Damascus billet, not stamped or laser-cut

ZB Knives' Damascus blades begin as stacked 1095 and 15N20 bar stock, forge-welded at ~2,350°F and drawn to final shape by hand. Stamped production blades skip this step entirely  the layered grain structure is purely visual on those. On a hand-forged blade, it runs through the steel.

Steel hardness: 58–60 HRC across the Damascus range

At 58–60 HRC, these blades hold a working edge through typical EDC tasks: cardboard, cord, food prep  and re-sharpen on a medium-grit stone in under five minutes. Below 56 HRC, an edge rolls within a single work session. Above 62 HRC, field sharpening becomes impractical without ceramic rods.

Handle materials chosen for grip retention, not appearance

Camel bone, sheep horn, pakka wood, and exotic wood are all dense, low-moisture materials that maintain grip when wet and don't swell or crack under humidity changes. Synthetic polymer handles absorb less moisture but offer less friction when wet. Every handle on this collection is fitted and pinned by hand before final assembly.

Full-tang pin construction on folding handles

The handle scales are secured to the liner frame with steel pins, not adhesive or press-fit alone. Pin construction keeps scales tight through repeated open-close cycles and prevents lateral rattle, a common failure point on imported budget folders with glued scales.

Premium leather sheaths included

Every knife ships with a hand-stitched leather belt sheath. The sheath leather is vegetable-tanned, weighs approximately 3–4 oz, and is sized to the blade length. No nylon slip cases or soft pouches. Leather sheaths form-fit to the blade over time and protect the edge geometry during transport.

Custom engraving and personalized orders available

ZB Knives Store accepts custom handle material requests and blade engraving. Personalized orders ship within the standard processing window. Contact the store before purchase to confirm availability on a specific handle material or engraving placement.

 HOW TO CHOOSE

Blade length:

A 3.0" blade covers 95% of daily carry tasks and stays legal in virtually every US state. Choose the 3.5–3.75" options when your primary use is outdoor fieldwork  gutting fish, cutting cord, or processing camp food  where a shorter blade requires extra passes.

Lock type:

Back locks are stronger under lateral stress and are well-suited to hard-use cutting. Liner locks deploy faster one-handed and suit users who need quick access. Frame locks sit between the two, with stiffer engagement than liner locks and slightly slower to close than back locks.

Steel selection:

Damascus (1095 + 15N20) offers visible pattern variation and holds an edge well through EDC tasks, but requires a light wipe-down after exposure to moisture. High-carbon steel at the same HRC range sharpens marginally faster. J2 stainless resists corrosion without oiling best for humid environments or coastal carry.

Handle material:

Camel bone and sheep horn grip better in bare-hand carry. Pakka wood and dyed wood are smoother and suit users who pocket-carry without a sheath.

CARE & MAINTENANCE

Wipe the blade dry immediately after wet use  Damascus and high-carbon steels surface-oxidize within 30 minutes of standing moisture. Apply one drop of food-safe mineral oil to the flat of the blade monthly, or after any exposure to saltwater or acidic materials. Store the knife open or half-open in low humidity. Touch up the edge on a medium-grit ceramic rod every 4–6 weeks under regular EDC use; a full re-profile on a 400-grit stone is needed only when the edge no longer bites on a thumbnail. Keep the pivot pin lightly oiled for smooth deployment.

The buyer assumes full responsibility for compliance with applicable laws.

FAQ

What blade steel are ZB Knives' folding knives made from?

ZB Knives' folding pocket knives use three steels: Damascus (a forge-welded billet of 1095 high-carbon and 15N20 nickel steel, 58–60 HRC), high-carbon steel (58–60 HRC), and J2 stainless steel. Damascus offers visible pattern variation and strong edge retention. High-carbon steel sharpens fast. J2 resists corrosion without frequent oiling.

How sharp are these knives out of the box?

ZB Knives' folding blades ship hand-stropped on leather at approximately 15–20° per side. They arrive hair-popping-sharp and capable of cleanly push-cutting printer paper. If you want a more refined mirror edge, two passes on a fine ceramic rod take the factory edge one step further.

What lock types are available and which is strongest?

This collection includes back locks, liner locks, and frame locks. Back locks — a spring-tensioned bar in the spine  withstand the most lateral blade stress and are hardest to disengage accidentally. Frame locks use part of the handle as the locking bar and offer a solid mid-range option. Liner locks are the fastest to close with one hand. All three are appropriate for EDC tasks.

What handle materials are available?

Current handle options include exotic wood, camel bone, sheep horn, pakka wood, and dyed wood. Camel bone and sheep horn are denser and grip better in wet conditions. Pakka wood and dyed wood are smoother and more visually uniform. Handle material availability varies by individual knife  check the product page for each model's specific options.

Are these folding knives legal to carry in my state?

Most folding knives with blades under 3–4 inches are legal to carry in most US states. However, blade-length limits, locking-mechanism restrictions, and concealed-carry rules vary by state and city. New York City, for example, enforces stricter rules than New York State. Check your state and local statutes before carrying. The American Knife & Tool Institute maintains a free state law database at akti.org.

Do the knives include a sheath?

Yes. Every knife in this collection ships with a hand-stitched premium leather belt sheath sized to the blade. The sheath is vegetable-tanned leather, approximately 3–4 oz weight. It protects the edge geometry during transport and forms to the blade over time.

Can I order a custom handle material or engraving?

Yes. ZB Knives Store accepts personalized orders with custom handle material selection and blade engraving. Contact the store before placing your order to confirm availability and lead time on your preferred configuration.

How do I maintain a Damascus folding knife?

Wipe the blade dry after use of Damascus steel surface-oxidizes in under 30 minutes of standing moisture. Apply one drop of food-safe mineral oil to the flat of the blade monthly. Sharpen on a medium-grit ceramic rod every 4–6 weeks under regular EDC use. Store in low humidity, preferably open or half-open. Keep the pivot lightly oiled for smooth one-handed deployment.

What is the price range and do you offer free shipping?

This collection ranges from $79 to $105. All orders ship free within the United States. No minimum order threshold applies to free shipping.
